Birth of the Breast Dragon Emperor[]

Vali first appeared in Volume 3 to defeat Kokabiel under Azazel's orders.

Clash of Red and White

Vali and Issei fighting in their respective Scale Mail armors

He reappears in front of Kuoh Academy in Volume 4, mocking Issei for his weaknesses and his lack of strength. He later participated in the peace conference between the Three Factions, fending off several magicians before betraying Azazel and revealing his allegiance with the Khaos Brigade. He then fought against Issei. While initially underestimating Issei due to his background, Vali became interested in him after Issei managed to overwhelm him due to Azazel saying that Vali would half the size of girls' breasts, despite the fact he was not using his real strength. The battle, however, was ended abruptly by the sudden appearance of Bikou who asked Vali to retreat before he could use Juggernaut Drive.

In Volume 6, Vali and Bikou appeared in front of Issei after he had just finished his usual Devil work, warning Issei to be careful about Diodora Astaroth. Mil-tan then came passing them wearing Gothic-Lolita clothes and cat ears and were stunned as they couldn't sense his presence till he came closer, Vali asked Bikou if he was a Nekomata using Senjutsu, he pondered that he might be a type of Cat-Troll. The two then left with Bikou suggesting they try the rumored Noodle shop on the way. He reappears along with Bikou and Arthur Pendragon, saving an unconscious Asia Argento from the Dimensional Gap and gives advice to the Occult Research Club on how to release Issei's incomplete Juggernaut Drive, which was something that could stimulate his heart, which Bikou suggests breasts. Irina then arrived with a device that projected Issei singing the Oppai Dragon Song, which seemed to calm Issei down. Vali used his Balance Breaker to lower Issei's, allowing Rias to come in close for Issei to pock her breasts which instantly turned him back, Vali then questioned if Rias' breasts were like a control switch for Issei. After Issei woke up, he revealed his true purpose of being in the Underworld, which was to have a look at the True Red Dragon God Emperor, Great Red, as he revealed to Issei that his greatest desire is to defeat Great Red and become the True White Dragon God Emperor. He asked Issei if he wanted to defeat him, and he admitted so as well as a few others, Vali also expressed the same objective and promised to fight again one day, Issei extended his fist in agreement to settle it there as he found it troubling if he were to shrink everyone's breasts, Vali simply found him amusing and told him to get stronger before he and his team left.

The Heroic Oppai Dragon[]

In Volume 7, Vali and his teammates cooperated with Azazel to help the Gremory group in their battle against Loki and Fenrir. As Vali and Issei has started to get along with each other, Odin joined their discussion asking him which women's body part does he likes. Vali irritably replied that he's no Oppai dragon, but he thinks that the line from their waist to their hip symbolizes the beauty of women, gaining the nickname Ketsuryūkō (Butt Dragon Emperor) from Odin, much to Albion's dismay. In the battle against Loki, Vali used his Juggernaut Drive to hold back Fenrir after they were transported by Kuroka to another location alongside Gleipnir, allowing Arthur to use his Excalibur Ruler to subjugate the giant wolf.

In Volume 9, Vali sends Le Fay Pendragon and Gogmagog to Kyoto to "repay" the Hero Faction for their surveillance on the Vali Team. After hearing Le Fay's report, Vali became interested in Issei's new power which differs from the usual Juggernaut Drive after Issei successfully persuaded two of the past possessors, but he claims that it is not his style to persuade the past possessors and that he will dominate them all instead.

In Volume 11, Vali sends Kuroka, Le Fay, and Fenrir to the Hyoudou Residence as Ophis's bodyguards, who at that time was interested to learn more about Issei. When Cao Cao and Georg attacked the Gremory Team, Vali switched places with Fenrir through a magic circle set up by Kuroka and Le Fay. During the battle, Vali, angered by Cao Cao mocking his past, attempted to activate his Juggernaut Drive but was stopped when Georg under Cao Cao's orders used Samael's poison on Vali, greatly weakening him.

In Volume 12, during the Demonic Beast Riot, Vali, still suffering from Samael's curse, hid inside the Gremory Palace while receiving treatment from the original Sun Wukong. He later fought against Pluto, revealing his Empireo Juggernaut Overdrive after sealing all of the past possessors' consciousness and halves Pluto into nothingness in one blast. After Issei defeats Cao Cao, Vali came to check on both on them, commenting on the fact that Cao Cao received Samael's curse and asking why the Truth Idea didn't work which after hearing Cao Cao's explanation, laughs at the latter. He tells Cao Cao that the one who will defeat Issei is him. He then promptly leaves the area with his team.

The Legend of Oppai Dragon and his Lively Companions[]

In Volume 14, though never showing up in person, Vali is mentioned several times, investigating extinct monsters, including Evil Dragons, while running into the Khaos Brigade. Near the end of Volume 14, Euclid Lucifuge received a report that Vali and his team were causing trouble and sent Grendel to deal with him.

In Volume 15, Vali appears along with Arthur, Bikou and Fenrir in Romania, to discuss with Azazel the re-emergence of the Evil Dragons, the Vampires, the Holy Grail and Euclid Lucifuge.

Vol

Vali angered at Grandfather Rizevim

In Volume 16, during the Vampire Civil War, while Issei and the Occult Research Club members are being confronted by Crom Cruach, Vali arrived and said that he and Issei need to team up to deal with the strongest Evil Dragon since he doesn't want to expend more energy after fighting with the possessor of Incinerate Anthem and Euclid Lucifuge. Even though he, with his normal Balance Breaker, and Issei, with his Crimson Cardinal Promotion, teamed up, they weren't able to deal considerable damage to Crom Cruach with the latter stopping the fight after accomplishing his task to stall the group for ten minutes. Vali later met his Grandfather, Rizevim Livan Lucifer, and even though his anger for him was overflowing, he didn't attack him knowing that his grandfather possesses the Sacred Gear Canceller. After Rizevim teleported Vali and the Occult Research Club members to the Carmilla's castle town to witness personally the mayhem caused by the mass-produced Evil Dragon, Vali attacked Rizevim but wasn't able to inflict damage on him and was furious after the latter succeeded in escaping with Euclid and Lilith. After returning from Romania, Vali and the rest of the Vali Team participated in the meeting for the formation of D×D and he agreed to be Odin's adopted son.

In Volume 17, Vali and Issei were being trained by First-Gen Sun Wukong within a space below the Gremory territory to learn to properly use and not waste their power. While Issei was sparring with a Shikigami-like thing made from the old man's hair and Youjutsu, Vali was having a mock battle with Sun Wukong who had the upper hand in blocking his attacks.

In Volume 18, Vali came to Issei's house and watched AV videos with Issei on Azazel's suggestion. After watching Vali seriously trying to find ways to turn what he was watching into Dragon power, Issei became disillusioned with his hobby for a short while.

In Volume 19, he and his team appeared at the Hyoudou Residence underground pool where they witnessed Issei and Rias' new combination technique. While enjoying their time there Bikou wanted to ask Vali for a favor now that their past crimes are cleared but he replied that he wanted to spend his time on attacking Rizevim and the Evil Dragons, as well as training his own power and that he should ask for either Kuroka or Le Fay instead. Arthur then expressed his interests to Vali as he heard that members of the Church’s rebels were Holy Sword wielders, Vali further increased his interests by mentioning the possibility of legendary wielders of holy swords may also be arriving. Tobio joined in telling Vali not to cause any trouble for Azazel, Vali simply shrugged and told him that he'd like to have a fight with Tobio to settle the scores from the last time, but he retorted that his fight is with Issei instead of him. Hearing this, Vali laughed loudly, then turned around to leave as Tobio tried to advised him to at least listen to the planned schedule after today.

In Volume 20, Vali managed to locate where Rizevim had hidden Agreas. Right after Rizevim finished his dialogue with Issei, Vali burst into the room and began a brawl with his grandfather, in which he was easily overwhelmed due to the immense gap in strength, in addition to Rizevim's Sacred Gear Canceller. After Issei's parents learned of Issei's secret life as a Devil and continue to accept him, Vali watched on, confused by what he was seeing. After Issei defeated Rizevim, Vali complimented Issei, telling him he greatly admired the fact that Issei fought for his family.

Vali arrived at Rizevim's location shortly after Aži Dahāka and Apophis left, in which he chanted the chant for Empireo Juggernaut Overdrive. While ignoring Rizevim's pathetic attempts to beg for his life, Vali created a sword made purely from magic. Right as Azazel told Rizevim he would have the honor of dying at the hands of the two Heavenly Dragons, Vali disagreed with him, saying that Rizevim had been defeated by a normal family, saying that Issei possessed something he did not. When Rizevim tried to get Lilith to defend him, Vali persuaded Lilith to defect, after which Vali proceeded to mercilessly cut Rizevim's arm off, much to the latter's surprise and agony. Right as he was about to kill Rizevim, Vali stopped, noticing Fafnir's presence. He stood back and watched an injured Fafnir kill Rizevim. He then told the now-dead Rizevim that while Rizevim had soiled the name of Lucifer, Vali would takeover, declaring that he would not become like him.

Vali found the sleeping 666 with Azazel, then was shocked to learn that Rizevim had a fail-safe in play, in which he would use his soul's energy to forcibly breach the final seal on 666. However, the message was cut short, after which Apophis and Azi Dahaka declared war on D×D and taunted Vali, asking whether he would fight or not. Azi Dahaka chimed in, telling Vali to bring Issei along.

In Volume 21, during the Evil Dragon War, a few days after the unsealing of 666, Vali was positioned in the Northern Europe region in preparation of the next attack of Qlippoth. Prior to the battle, Vali went to peek on his estranged mother, who had her memories of Vali removed from her by his father. Vali vows to protect his mother and his half-siblings as well as the generations to come. He later faces off against Aži Dahāka in a rematch as Vali initially struggles against the legendary Evil Dragon, trapping Vali in an illusion where he has a normal family. Vali eventually breaks through the illusion and through the help of Ophis, manages to gain the DxD L, fusing his powers into one as Vali continues his battle against Aži Dahāka and eventually overpowering the Evil Dragon. Before disappearing, Aži Dahāka makes a promise with Vali to return and fight again.

Exhausted from his battle with Aži Dahāka, Vali later had to watch his mentor and father figure Azazel, leave as Azazel, along with the other leaders sacrifice themselves by taking 666 into the Isolation Barrier Field, much to Vali's dismay as he was unable to voice out his plea towards Azazel. Vali was later confined to a hospital room with Issei to recover with Ophis and Lilith for company. When Issei wakes up, Vali tells him how Ophis adjusted the power borrowed from her thus curing him of his Dragon Deficiency. Vali also tells Issei how Azazel and the others Mythology leaders are gone, he notes with a trembling voice that they both have bodies able to survive a very long time and will await Azazel's return to complain to him.

In Volume 22, Vali and his team go fishing with the Occult Research Club and Issei's parents, with Vali tagging along with Issei to find a fishing spot. Vali tells Issei that he's been promoted into Ultimate-class, an offer he originally turned down, but accepted once he was told that his promotion was Azazel's wish. Vali then tells Issei he's going to participate in the Azazel Cup, which he finds the perfect opportunity to fight God-class beings without causing trouble to anyone.

Red Dragon Emperor of the Blazing Truth × White Dragon Emperor of the Morning Star: The True Dragon(s) of the Kuoh Academy[]

Vali then participates in the opening ceremony and was pleased of Issei's arrival, in which he bumps fists with him. Issei tells Vali they should have a good battle as Heavenly Dragons.

In Volume 23, Vali and Saji were both invited by Issei to go fishing. While on their fishing trip, Issei revealed the purpose of it was to ask them that he wanted to know what reason he should have for himself to enjoy a simple battle without life or death consequences. The three are then paid a visit by Vali's adopted brothers; Vidar and Apollon, who informed them that they both became the leaders of their respected mythologies and are teammates under Typhon's leadership in the tournament. All of a sudden, their communication devices rang and they received news of Rias' match, the three dragon wielders then transported over to see it for themselves.

In Volume 24, Vali and his team faced off in their next match against Rias and her team at the Fafnir Stadium under the Board Collapse rules, where the field will begin to collapse starting from both ends. Right before the game would commence, Vali went to get a drink from a vending machine when to his surprise came across Lavinia who selected the drink for him knowing it was the one he takes before an important battle. She let him know that she would cheer for him but Vali paid no mind to it. When he had almost arrived back to the waiting room, Albion laughed lightly as he asked Vali how does it feel to have his princess cheer for him, Vali continued to act as if it was none of his concern.

After the game had already started, Vali arrived wearing his Empireo Juggernaut Overdrive armor with Fenrir by his side to Gogmagog, Bikou and Arthur's location where they were having difficulty dealing with Vasco Strada. He asked the Church warrior what did Rias promise him to participate in her team, which Vasco demonstrated by taking a concoction that reverted him back to his fifties which he claimed to be his prime. Vali and his friends were easily overpowered by Vasco by what seemed to be with little ease, being able to cut through Vali's energy attack and even damaging his armor. Vali continued to fire off blasts of demonic energy from close range but Vasco evaded all of them with minimal movement. Vali then accelerated his speed to the point of seemingly vanishing to strike at him from behind, however Vasco predicted his moves and appeared even faster behind Vali instead. Vali was able to immediately move away from Vasco's counterattack, even the wave of holy aura from his sword that followed after reached him at high speeds was evaded. Vasco's next attack was his bare fist that had broken through Vali's armor and directly hit his abdomen, causing him to retreat backwards. Vasco unleashed another wave of holy aura while Vali could only block it with his crossed arm, the aftermath showed that Vasco's attack had completely shattered his armor. Arthur then stepped in wanting to take on Vasco himself and advised Vali to take Fenrir to Rias' and Crom Cruach's location, he recreated his Silver armor and did so after being further urged by Bikou.

Vali flew to Rias' current location while carrying Fenrir and let him fight with her while he personally went up against the Evil Dragon; Crom Cruach. Crom made the first move as he charged straight at Vali with his right arm morphed into a dragon’s large claw coated in an unbelievably dense aura, Vali dodged with the smallest possible margin, the two engaged in a fierce melee battle in mid-air, exchanged blows at high speed with each blow generating immense vibrations and booms in the air that caused the entire atmosphere to tremble. Vali primarily focused on evading his attacks which Crom mocked him for, though Vali retorted by saying that he wanted to see all of the so-called strongest Evil Dragon attacks first as an appetizer. Crom then pulled back temporarily to express how proud he was that an evil Dragon like him could fight against a silvery-white dragon like Vali and that he had no regrets over it.

Their fight continued with Vali firing a bombardment of demonic energy this time but was repelled by Crom's fist, who deflected them towards the surrounding buildings. Crom Cruach then spewed forth flames which covered the entire sky, Vali attempted to counter them with his Compression Divider but proved unaffected as he was hit by the flames, Crom then dived into the scorching fires to continue to assault Vali amidst the inferno of searing flames. Vali used his silvery-white aura to blow away the flames but was still met with a melee assault from Crom Cruach, his armor had been melting from the flames and also cracked from the Evil Dragon's blows so he struck a blow of energy at Crom to momentarily retreat but the Evil Dragon gripped onto him and transformed his other arm into a large Dragon's claw and thrust it straight across, Vali was forced to endure the attack with no means of escaping it which caused him to be propelled backwards through various skyscrapers. Despite being worn out gasping for air, Vali still flew immediately out of a collapsed building and came back to stand before Crom’s eyes, he also expressed how honored he felt to fight him before activating his DxD armor. Vali moved at an abnormal speed beyond perception but still received a hit from Crom Cruach's fist, he then immediately recomposed himself and moved at his incredible speed once again, only this time he unleashed attacks of his Lucifer aura that finally made Crom bleed. Even so, Crom was still able to deliver a punch towards Vali that sent him souring down and shattering the armor around at his abdomen, causing him to also spit out blood. Crom continued to pursue him. All Vali could do was gather aura to his arms to block, he asked the Evil Dragon how was he able to hit, to he simply replied Intuition.

Vali then asked Albion how he'd measure the difference between himself and Crom, the White Dragon answered that Vali had the upper hand in terms of skill, technique and speed but Crom Cruach was better in overall destructive power, Vali laughed out wildly as an opponent who could defeat him had appeared before his eyes. Crom then spewed out flames much fiercer then before, this time however Vali used his Satan Compression Divider that completely erased the flames, he then sent his Wyvern Fairies towards Crom to continuously use his Half Dimension on him which restricted his movements while attempting to advance forward but to Vali's surprise was able to break though and destroy the wyverns one after the other. Vali continuously bombarded him with his absolute aura, but Crom continued to fly straight towards him without signs of dodging as a massive explosion went off upon contact, Crom emerged from the smoke to thrust another punch at him and let loose a mouthful of flames as well. With clear resolution, Vali unleashed a blast of demonic energy directly at Crom’s abdomen causing another explosion, he then flew back augmenting their distance. Crom Cruach’s body was covered and dripping in blood but his fighting spirit hadn’t decreased at all, rather he had become even more motivated which made Vali laugh, they both made an oath to each other to continue fighting until the very end.

Although their fight had ended due to Rias' situation that forced her to surrender, leaving Vali and his team the winners. Both Vali and Crom were completely battered and upset that their battle had come to an abrupt end. Vali approached Crom and extended his hand out for a handshake, Crom smiled as he brushed Vali’s hand aside and flew over to Rias, Vali looked at his rejected handshake attempt and cheerfully laughed by himself. A few days had passed since the battle between him and the Gremory team, Vali and Issei felt a wave of inexplicable pressure from when meeting with Verrine and Balberith whom they claimed to be Super Devils, a statement that shocked everyone present. They soon left hoping to meet the Heavenly Dragons in a match. Not only Vali and Issei but also their Dragons were baffled by their existence.

In Volume 25, Vali and his team celebrated at the Hyoudou Residence along with their rival teams. Vali converses with Issei of how he aims to be the winner while Issei agrees but must face each other in a match as Heavenly Dragons.

Vali reappeared in the end of True Volume 1, appearing at the Agares territory with his team for the tournament to announce the next upcoming matches and reminded Issei not to lose until he faces him in the match.

Issei & Vali in Shin DxD 2

Vali & Issei chatting together

In True Volume 2, Vali moved to Kuoh Town under the recommendation of Vidar and his own team members, with the help of Lavinia and Natsume. Vali became surprised to see Issei at his new apartment and was annoyed by Natsume as he told her that he can move things on his own and didn’t expect her to request help from Issei, she playfully tapped his head as she told him that he should accept help from his destined rival. Vali became interested in hearing about Tobio arriving at his apartment to make noodles and Natsume started to talk about his past of loving noodles with Issei, much to his embarrassment. Vali and Issei started to converse about Ingvild when he took interest in their similarities and asked Issei if he plans to use her for the tournament, which he is uncertain of. Vali asked Issei if he plans to hold back against Rias, which he clarified he doesn’t plan to lose, and Issei tells Vali not to lose against Sun Wukong. After he was finished unpacking, Vali gave Ingvild a white dragon plushie as gratitude for her help on her devil work.

In True Volume 3, Vali appeared after the defeat of Erebus and Tartarus, where the group were informed about the fake Two Heavenly Dragons that appeared in England and Vali decided that he would like to take care of the imposters.

Diabolos Dragon Lucifer

Vali’s Diabolos Dragon Lucifer armor

In True Volume 4, Vali and his team went against Team Journey to the West at the Lucifer Stadium for their first match in the main stage, where he was fighting against one of the people he wanted to fight, Nezha, while he was already in his Diabolos Dragon Lucifer form. Vali created a huge of dense aura in his hand and Wyverns to aim at Nezha, but he evaded his attacks by dancing in the air as Vali kept releasing aura attacks from his hand and rapid fire was launched by the twelve Wyverns at Nezha. As Nezha tried to pierce Vali with his Fire-Tipped Spear, he dodged the spear and praise Nezha as the greatest strength of Mt. Meru and the one who has surpassed the Sun Wukong. Vali dodge Nezha’s enhanced Universal Rings with his Touki that was launching at Vali, but they changed their trajectory that was chasing him. He used his Satan Compression Divider to crush the Fire-Tipped Spear and Universal Rings, and use the Wyverns Divide on Nezha and fired his aura shots as he took out his Red Armillary Sash and deflected Vali’s enormous glowing aura, but could not stop the aftershock and was sent flying towards the surface of the water. The Fire-Tipped Spear came out of the water and managed to damage Vali’s plate armor, causing him to gush out blood from his mouth and the spear returned to Nezha as he was remerge from the water. When Nezha wondered that it’s has been years since he had to use all his weapons and wonders if Issei is the same or more troublesome because of his miraculous powers, Which Vali asks him if he hates fighting strong dragons, Which Nezha responded that strong dragons other than Yu-Long are welcomed. After Sun Wukong’s retirement and his teams victory, Vali expressed that he would like to fight Nezha again.

After the match against Team Journey to the West, Vali arrived to the spacious room for their departure to England and noticed the change of Issei’s behavior, becoming depressed of the process. After hearing about the Dragon Range, Vali and Albion became interested on searching for and got teased by Bikou about searching Asia’s panties, leading to Vali telling him that he’ll never eat ramen with him again and gets embarrassed by Lavinia who says that he should get along with his friends. Seeing Issei getting panicked when Xenovia talks about breasts, the Vali Team and Sairaorg expresses their grief with Vali calling his condition bad. When Magnus suggested Hades’ and Angra Mainyu's targets, Vali and Issei believes that is them and that its been a long time since the Two Heavenly Dragons have fought together. They later meet Uther Pendragon, who is the father of Arthur and Le Fay, and greets both Vali, Issei, and the Two Heavenly Dragons.

As Team DxD began their operation, Vali traveled together with Issei, Fenrir, and Gogmagog to Hades’ temple and wanted to shoot at temple until Hades and Angra came out themselves. Vali and Fenrir went against Hades and released an extreme amount of aura towards the god until he repelled it with his skeleton staff, and later Vali unleashed his Satan Compression Divider towards Hades but he raised the aura contained in the staff to repel Vali’s aura. As Hades released black aura towards Vali, he tried to stop the aura attack with his Reflect, but it was proven to be very powerful and it changed its trajectory. Vali’s armor was destroyed during the aura fight, but he managed to damage Hades and inform Issei that he will bring down the god, but it’ll be difficult because of the time limit. Vali watched as Issei was being embarrassed and Gogmagog being badly damaged because of Angra’s form as a woman and using his elemental magic attacks, where Vali becomes disappointed that Issei’s perception was rewritten. Vali continued his fight with Hades and released his Satan Compression Divider to compress Hades’ aura attacks, but his armor was destroyed and he used Half Dimension to stop Hades’ movements. Vali was joined by Issei after he defeated Angra and tells Hades that Issei’s existence is a joke and he would’ve won if he had ten thousand beauties. Vali then unleashed his Satan Lucifer Smasher to shoot at Hades, but he became shocked to see that he survived the blast and was still standing, and Issei decided to help Vali to fight him. As the other members of Team DxD arrived to assist them to help weaken Hades, this left Vali and Issei to deal the final blow with their kicks enhanced by the immense amount of aura.

After defeat of Hades and Angra, Vali and Issei were promoted to Special-class Devils and have been recognized as Super Devils. Vali and the members of Team DxD celebrated their victory at the garden of Hyoudou Residence, where he was eating ramen. Vali and his team went to deliver Hades and Angra to the uninhabited island of the Atlantic Ocean, where they encountered the machine lifeforms Bebevu Su and Gvardora, and equipping his Empireo Juggernaut Overdrive as Gvardora began to attack them with his bombardment and repelled the attack. Vali was being overpowered due to his exhaustion and later he and his team watched as they took Hades and Angra into their ship.
