Sun Wukong is the first Monkey King and is known as The Great Victorious Fighting Buddha and the Great Sage Equaling Heaven. He is also Bikou's ancestor[1] and Indra's former vanguard.
Appearance
Sun Wukong is a monkey youkai who appears around the same height as a kindergarten (at least a meter tall), covered in golden fur (dark beige in the anime) wearing a monk's cassock, a wrinkled, creased face and black skin (beige in the anime), wearing prayer beads around his neck and a golden headband around his forehead.
Personality
Sun Wukong claims that he is a free geezer, not caring much for worthless things.[2] Despite so, he would carry out the orders given to him by Indra and is shown to be wise enough to give advice to people.[3] Sun Wukong may have a jokester personality as Yuuto Kiba once claimed that he can sense similarities in Sun Wukong's personality to that of Bikou's.[2] In fact, Sun Wukong was known to be extremely mischievous in his youth as he's known to have once playfully caused a havoc so immense, that the Buddha had no choice but to imprison him underneath a mountain. Despite all of this traits, he is very wise and intelligent enough to explain to Yuuto about Samael's deadly poison blood and how a soul is very fragile and weak (if it doesn't have anybody).
He also hates Devils from the Old Satan Faction, claiming that they were the ones responsible for the destruction of his kin in the past. However, Sun Wukong's hate of the Devils is limited to their past generation as he believes that the current generation of the Devils is different and so, cannot be held responsible. He understands the value of determination and commitment and isn't hesitant to acknowledge others as shown when he complements Issei for defeating the Hero Faction and protecting his comrades even without the use of the Juggernaut Drive. Amongst the very few Gods, the few that he respects are Sakra, the Trimurti gods, Odin, Zeus, and the God of the Bible, as he generally hates evil beings, or Gods, that desire nothing but to conquer, destroy, or bring chaos to the world. He also has great respect towards the current leaders of the "Three Factions", and believes that they are strong and are capable of managing their own Factions very well.
History
Sun Wukong is a monkey that was born from a stone and acquired supernatural powers through Taoist practices. After rebelling against Heaven, he was imprisoned under a mountain by the Buddha. Before that had happened, he had earlier fought against the Bull Demon King, the one who manipulated him into rebelling against Heaven by killing his friends. After a massive battle, he successfully banished the Bull Demon King from Heaven after the latter attempted to overthrown and rule it. He later accompanies the monk Xuanzang Sanzang on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India while being accompanied by "Pigsy" (猪八戒 Zhu Bajie) and "Sandy" (沙悟浄 Sha Wujing), both of whom had offered to accompany the priest in order to atone for their previous crimes. The group encountered a series of eighty-one tribulations before accomplishing their mission and returning safely to China. There, Sun Wukong was granted Buddhahood for his service and strength.
After his ascension to Buddhahood, Sun Wukong eventually became Indra's vanguard. Shortly after the Khaos Brigade became known to the world, Sun Wukong was sent by Indra to fend off the organization and succeeded in fending off many terrorist attacks, especially the ones led by the Old Satan Faction and the Hero Faction.
At some point in the past, he met a young Cao Cao. Cao Cao learns from Sun Wukong about how he carries the blood of the hero Cao Cao which was something that he and his parents weren’t aware of. Since then he and Indra made contact of him before Cao Cao joined the Khaos Brigade but still keeps an eye on him, as Indra's orders.
Powers & Abilities
Senjutsu Master: Sun Wukong has complete mastery of Senjutsu, and according to his descendant Bikou, he can be considered a real monster because of it. With it, he was able to easily rejuvenate Issei with a single tap from his staff.[3] Additionally he was capable of using his ki to cure Vali of the deadly poison of Samael.
- Touki: As a Senjutsu master, Sun Wukong can use touki, increasing his offense, defense, and speed; he is described as having overwhelming ki. He can channel touki into Ruyi Jingu Bang to enhance its offense and defense power, letting him counter Vali's demonic and magic attacks in his Scale Mail armor. In True Volume 4, after releasing both Touki and shout, Sun Wukong could disperse some of the clones that Bikou created.
- Healing: Due to his mastery of Senjutsu, Sun Wukong has shown exceptional healing abilities. He was able to rejuvenate Issei, who's stamina had been depleted due to unlocking Illegal Move Triaina with a single touch of his staff. He was later shown to be able to extract Samael's poison from the injured Vali Lucifer, as he was able to also determine how the poison functioned on Dragons after curing Vali.
Youjutsu Master: Sun Wukong has complete mastery of Youjutsu. With it, he is able to conjure various offensive and defensive spells.
- Replication: Each of his hairs possesses magical properties, capable of being transformed into clones of the Monkey King himself, and/or into various weapons, animals, and other objects.
- Transformation: Sun Wukong knows 72 transformations, which allow him to transform into various animals and objects; however, he has trouble transforming into other forms, due to the accompanying incomplete transformation of his tail.
Immense Strength: In his youth, Sun Wukong possessed an immense amount of strength; he is able to lift his 17,550 lb staff with ease. After his ascension to a Buddha, he's said to have become even stronger than before as he is noted to be among the main battle force of Mount Meru. Despite his advanced age, Sun Wukong is still extremely powerful, as shown when he was able to effortlessly overwhelm the Hero Faction, defeating Siegfried in one shot, destroyed Dimension Lost's mist using a single spell, and could block the strongest Longinus, the True Longinus using a single finger. He is said to be able to fight and defeat Ultimate-class and High-class Devils with ease, without even showing the true extent of his strength.
Immense Durability: Sun Wukong is immensely durable to any attacks. He can easily tank most attacks without being hurt, as seen when he casually blocked Cao Cao`s True Longinus with just one finger. Although, it is stated by Wukong that even he would turn into ashes if he ever got hit by the attacks of both the current Heavenly Dragons.
Immense Speed: Sun Wukong is incredibly fast, as he could casually block a sneak attack from Cao Cao's True Longinus. He could also keep up with Vali, who was wearing his Scale Mail armor, while toying with him.
Master Combatant: Sun Wukong is a tremendously powerful and skilled fighter, as he is among the main battle force of Mount Meru and Indra's former vanguard.[4] He could completely overpower the strongest members of the Hero Faction and stated that they were all too young to stand a chance against him.[3] In addition when the Khaos Brigade made themselves known to the world, Sun Wukong was sent by Indra to fend off the group, and managed to stop several of their operations with minimal effort.[3] He even considers the D×D Team as amateurs who have flashy appearances, but was confident enough he could train them enough to fight with Ultimate-Class Devils and Longinus wielders enough to fight against God-class beings.[5] During his sparring matches against Vali, the strongest White Dragon Emperor in history, he easily toyed with him and managed to evade or block all of his attacks with minimal effort and movements.[6]
Master Magician: He is shown great mastery of using magic and spells, particularly to those of ancient and legendary magic that he learned through Taoist practices. He knows spells to command wind, part water, conjure protective circles against demons, and freeze humans, demons, and gods alike. Sun Wukong can cast a spell powerful enough to destroy the mist of the Dimension Lost, helped Issei perform the Pailingual through Yasaka and Kunou, he twirled his staff and tapped the ground. In that instant creating a strange space covering the breast territory, they were in. He is also shown to be able to remove very tough, thick, complex and powerful barriers and seals with ease, but was unable to do that in the past while he traveled with Xuanzang on account of the fact that he was still atoning for his sins at that time.
Equipment
Ruyi Jingu Bang (如意棒, Nyoi-bō): An iron rod/cudgel, whose size changes according to its wielder's wishes, that Sun Wukong obtained from the undersea palace of Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East Sea. It is immensely heavy and has the power to change its size, multiply itself, and fight according to the whim of its master.
Jīndǒu Yún (筋斗雲, Kinto'un): Sun Wukong can summon a golden cloud that he can ride on.

- Sun Wukong is the Monkey King from the Chinese epic novel Journey to the West.
- Sun Wukong is the first Buddha introduced in the series, the second being Xuanzang Sanzang, and third being Nezha.
- His team name for the Azazel Cup is Journey to the West in reference to the story he's most known for.
