Gleipnir (グレイプニル, Gureipuniru) are mystical chains forged by Dwarves used to bind Fenrir.
Appearance[]
Gleipnir are very big chains. In the anime they also appear to be glowing.
Summary[]
The chains were used to restrain Fenrir, until Loki enhanced his son so they would no longer hold him.
Under the advise of Midgardsormr, the Magic within Gleipnir were powered up by Dark Elves to once again be able to trap Fenrir. The mystic chains of Gleipnir were then given to Issei Hyoudou and Vali's comrades in the final fight against Loki and Fenrir. Because of how heavy they are, the magical chains were given to Kuroka to keep them in her personal territory space.
As the fight with Loki had commenced, Kuroka summoned the chains to ensnare Fenrir, while Loki had prepared for them, he did not anticipate that they would move on their own as Fenrir was eventually captured. However Fenrir was eventually freed by his children. Later Vali took the chains and used Juggernaut Drive to fight against Fenrir (while bound by the chains) to weaken him until Arthur Pendragon could use Excalibur Ruler's power to control Fenrir, bringing him to the Vali Team's side.
Abilities[]
Gleipnir was forged to restrain, seemingly to the point of paralysis, whoever it latched onto, primarily the God-Devouring Wolf; Fenrir. It was stated to be incredibly heavy. When near it's target, Gleipnir was able to wrap itself around them as if it had its own consciousness. The chain was further enhanced by the Dark Elves to overcome the countermeasures to it that Loki instilled in Fenrir.
Trivia[]
- In Norse myth, Gleipnir were used to bind Fenrir by the Norse Gods who feared him and would hold him until Ragnarök, when he would break free and devour Odin.
- Gleipnir in Old Norse means "Open One".[note 1]
