Kuroka, later named Kuroka Toujou[1] is a Nekoshou, a rare variant of Nekomata. She is the older sister of Koneko Toujou, making her the firstborn daughter of Fujimai and her human lover. After their parent's deaths, she and her sister were turned by the Naberius clan into reincarnated Devils. However, after killing her previous master to protect her sister, Kuroka became an SS-Class Devil, one of the most wanted criminals.
She soon became a member of the Vali Team, who were previously affiliated with the Khaos Brigade, upon joining the Team DxD, she was exonerated from her previous crimes because of her actions. She is also one of Issei's fiancees. After the defeat of the Alliance of Hell, she became Xenovia Quarta's Bishop.
Appearance[]
Kuroka is a beautiful young woman with a voluptuous figure, long black hair with split bangs, and hazel-gold eyes with cat-like pupils. Her body measurements are [B98-W57-H86 cm] [B39-W23-H35 in]; height is 161 cm (5 feet 3 inches) and body weight is [49 kg].
Her attire consists of a black kimono, a yellow obi, a set of golden beads, and an ornately detailed headband. The kimono features a red interior and it is open at her shoulders, giving view to her large breasts which rival those of Rias and Akeno in terms of size.
In her Nekomata form, which she is in all the time, she grows a pair of black cat ears and two black tails.
Personality[]
At first, Kuroka was shown to be rather malicious, with her aura described as being more "outright evil" when compared to the "vice" of Azazel's. In the past, she was said to have murdered her previous master, as she was unable to gain control over her Senjutsu, and was driven mad as a result. This initially seemed true, with her first appearance having her declare her intention to kill Rias, Issei and her sister after the later refused her, and that was after using poison to weaken Koneko and Rias, all after commenting on her intention to use Koneko as "a piece under my control".
However, she later claimed that vicious display was just her "going with the mood". Under normal circumstances, Kuroka is rather playful, nonchalant, and simple-minded, simply enjoying teasing people. She's rather vulgar, often using her beauty and sensuousness as a weapon among her arsenal of teasing others, most notably Issei. Fenrir once stated his belief that because of these traits she wastes her potential. Kuroka is also lustful and perverted as she enjoyed openly doing sexual things with Issei without restraint. When Issei lost his perversion as a result of the Alphecca Tyrant, Kuroka was dismayed calling it a serious illness.
Above all else, despite her mischievous nature, she can be a kind and compassionate woman who loves Koneko more than anything, wanting peace more than anyone. To raise Koneko after becoming orphans, Kuroka agreed to become a reincarnated Devil. She murdered her former Master to protect her younger sister from him, though it meant she'd become labeled as a criminal and continued to play that part. However, Kuroka often has a hard time showing this side of herself, often opting to tease her younger sister instead.
She expressed an interest in having strong children, at first having propositioned Vali, but was rejected, then turning her attention to Issei, both of whom are the Heavenly Dragons' hosts. Her reason being because she wanted her species, the Nekoshou, to bloom once again, their kind being inherently rare. Before and after moving into the Hyoudou Residence, Kuroka is often described as a freeloader. Most of the time, she's seen playing video games and being a glutton, never assisting around the house and instead leaves that work to the others, unlike Le Fay. After being called out on this fact, Kuroka often offered Issei sex as a means of getting out of it. Like her sister Koneko, Kuroka is also shown to have a big appetite, as she would eat other people's snacks without asking and accompanied the Gremory group on their fishing trip solely to eat the fish they caught, claiming all the nutrients go to her breasts.[2]
Adding to her feline personality, Kuroka often ends her sentences with "Nya" (にゃ), mimicking a cat's meow.
History[]
Kuroka is the older sister of Koneko (then known as Shirone) who was born to a Nekoshou called Fujimai and a human researcher. After losing her parents, she and her sister were later taken in by an unnamed Devil from the branch family of the House of Naberius, and she was reincarnated as the Devil's Bishop using up two Evil Pieces.
While serving her master, she became extremely talented in Senjutsu and Youjutsu, and her magical power as a Bishop became so great that she surpassed her own master in terms of magical power alone. This later became her undoing when she later became a Stray Devil after killing her master, with everyone assuming that she was drunk with her own power. The true reason for the killing was to protect her sister Shirone from her master, who attempted to conduct unethical tests on her in his research on creating a Super Devil. This resulted in her sister's near-execution and depression, as well as the reason why she refuses to use Senjutsu and Youjutsu. Following the incident, Kuroka became one of the Underworld's most wanted criminals, ranking at SS-Class. At some point before the series, she joined the Khaos Brigade along with the rest of the Vali Team.
Powers & Abilities[]
Demonic Power: As a Devil, Kuroka has all the common skills and powers of one, including the power to cast various spells. She primarily uses this in tandem with her Senjutsu and Youjutsu techniques. Koneko has stated that her power rivals that of an Ultimate-Class Devil and even with Tannin's help, it wouldn't be easy to capture her.
Immense Magic Power: As a Bishop who took two Bishop Pieces, Kuroka is able to enhance her magic and demonic powers to a greater extent than regular Bishops.

Youjutsu Master: As a Nekoshou, she is very talented in Youjutsu, being able to perform skills common among Youkai, whether for offense, defense, or support. She is skilled enough to instruct her younger sister in it, as well as effectively support her teammates in combat with her Youjutsu skills. A testament to this is the time, Kuroka could research and developed a Youjutsu poison powerful enough to affect Sun Wukong using his descendant as the test subject, causing irregular effects on Bikou with spells, curses, and medicines.
- Poison Mist: She can create a poisonous mist effective on Youkai and Devils, but Dragons and Dragons-based Sacred Gear users are immune to it. However, it's possible for Kuroka to strengthen and adapt her poison to affect particular beings, such as Sun Wukong through examining his descendant's constitution, being powerful enough to greatly weaken him despite brief exposure.
- Illusions: Kuroka is able to cast illusions such as creating mirage copies of herself to throw her opponents off.

Senjutsu Master: Among her many talents, Kuroka became exceptional in Senjutsu, strengthening herself using Ki and sensing auras. She can control nature, turning the ground into mud to seal the movements of one of Fenrir's sons;[3] controlling the earth and plants, using them to attack.[4][5] She can combine Senjutsu and Youjutsu to release a concentrated energy blast.
- Touki (闘気, Fighting Spirit): Kuroka covers herself in an aura of ki, increasing her strength, defense, and speed.
- Kasha (火車, Burning Chariot): Kuroka can summon multiple big wheels that are covered in black flames.
- Stealth: Kuroka uses her Senjutsu to conceal her presence from other Devils by changing her ki flow.

Master Magician: Being a Bishop worth two Bishop pieces, Kuroka has remarkable magic potential, abilities, and talent, letting her surpass her previous master in a short amount of time. She has shown to be skilled in Teleportation, Defensive, and Devil Magics, she could store objects such as the magical chains, Gleipnir inside of another dimension.[6]
- Defensive Magic: Kuroka has shown the ability to create a sturdy defensive magic circle to protect the room that she and her comrades were staying in.

- Teleportation Magic: Kuroka can transport herself and others to different locations, such as when she teleported Vali and Fenrir to an alternate space, where the two could fight. Kuroka is noted to be capable of sneaking into the Underworld without the permission of the Devil Government due to her skill at teleportation magic.
- Summoning Magic: Kuroka is capable of summoning Gogmagog from the alternate dimension where he is kept. She was capable of summoning Vali with Le Fay's help.
Kuroka's Spacial Barrier
Space Manipulation: In addition to Senjutsu, Youjutsu, and Magic, Kuroka learned how to perform spatial manipulation, letting her erect a barrier that can trap her opponents in another space. Kuroka has proven to be able to perform short-range teleporation techniques to create some distance between herself and Koneko.
Skilled Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Aside from magic, Senjutsu, and Youjutsu, Kuroka has some skills in hand-to-hand combat, able to hold her own against Koneko for a short while. Kuroka can also combine Touki and Senjutsu to further increase the power of her physical attacks. After training with Magari, Kuroka's skill in hand-to-hand combat was further enhanced, as she easily defeated Sacred Gear users by combining her Touki, Senjutsu and Youjutsu into her physical strikes.
Flight: Being a Devil, Kuroka can fly using her bat-like wings.
Equipment[]
Bishop Piece (僧侶の駒, Sōryo no koma): Kuroka was reincarnated using two Bishop Piece, which grants her enhanced magic power, more than a normal Bishop.[7]
Gleipnir (グレイプニル, Gureipuniru): Mystical chains forged by Dwarves used to bind Fenrir. During the battle against Loki, Kuroka summoned and used them in to seal Fenrir's movements.[6]

- Kuroka's birthday is on October 1st.[8]
- Kuroka's name means "Black Song", in reference to her hair and tail color.
- Kuroka is the seventh to become engaged to Issei Hyoudou.[1]
- She is the second of Issei's brides who is not a member of his or Rias' peerage, the first being Irina.
- Kuroka likes playing video games at the Hyoudou Residence, to the point where her play time in game exceeds Issei, who owns the game system.[9]
- Kuroka doesn't wear bras, as she maintains her breasts by using Senjutsu and Youjutsu.[10]
- In one of the illustrations from Volume 7 of the light novels, Kuroka's ears were colored white instead of their original black. This error was later corrected as shown in Volume 11.
- In the "DxD" popularity election, she ranked tenth in the heroine category.[11]
- Kuroka and Koneko's father was a Buddhist. Hence, both of their parent's souls are in the afterlife associated with Buddhism, and are subjects under Great King Enma. [12]
