Excalibur Nightmare (夢幻の聖剣, Ekusukaribā Naitomea), also known as the Holy Sword of Dreams (夢幻の聖剣, Mugen no Seiken), is a Holy Sword and one of the seven Excaliburs.
Summary[]
One of the seven Excaliburs that were created after the original Excalibur broke. It was then kept by the Church for safekeeping along with other Excalibur swords. During the events of Volume 3, the Excalibur Nightmare was one of the three Excaliburs stolen by Kokabiel and his men. The sword was then given to Freed Sellzen.[1]
The Excalibur Nightmare was later fused with Excalibur Mimic, Excalibur Rapidly, and Excalibur Transparency becoming the Fused Excalibur wielded by Freed to fight Yuuto Kiba and Xenovia Quarta. Freed used Excalibur Nightmare's abilities to create three duplicates of himself to confuse the two swordsmen between the four of him. The sword was soon broken by Xenovia Quarta with her Durandal.[2] The remaining fragments and the Excalibur Nightmare were then taken back to the Church by Irina Shidou to be reforged.[3]
As of Volume 9, all of the Nightmare and all of the Excalibur fragments (except Excalibur Ruler) are fused into the Durandal where the fragments function as a sheath to help control the Durandal.[4]
In Volume 19, Nightmare's abilities were used by Ewald Cristaldi's replica of Excalibur, in which he used it to create multiple illusion copies of himself with one of the clones created by Excalibur Mimic mixed within the group. Xenovia removed all of the fragments from Durandal as one item, thus reforming the original Excalibur.[5]
Appearance[]
Nightmare takes the appearance of a rapier-like sword with a slender and sharply-pointed two-edged blade with a swirl-like pattern on the grip. It possesses a gold crossguard that resembles a pair of angel wings. From the hilt protrudes a long gold swirl pattern, almost resembling a more drill-like oriented covering half-way through the blade.
Abilities[]
Nightmare conjures up whatever the wielder can imagine, granting the user the ability to cast life-like illusions and is capable of controlling the dreams of others.[6] One of these illusions includes manifesting multiple duplicates of the wielder.[5]
